Animal and Bird Food

Food Bags  $2.00

A favourite part of any visit to our wildlife reserve is feeding the birds and animals. You can purchase food bags for the birds and animals or you may wish to bring some bread or apples and carrots from home!

Trout Food   $1.00
This is a great way to see the trout in action and you may also see some of the eels feeding.

If you want to get up close and personal with the Staglands wildlife, including New Zealand native birds, click here to read more about our close encounters! A great thing to do if you want some amazing close-up photos!

Cart Rides
During the weekends, public holidays and school holidays we harness Jack the donkey to a cart and take him down to the stables for rides. The rides run from 11.30am to 3:30pm (weather permitting). The rides are supervised with a park ranger who leads the donkey and cart around a walking track.

Cart rides   $3.00 per ride

Wheelchair Access
Entry is free into the park for persons in wheelchairs and their caregivers.
Those needing mobility aids can still experience the birds, animals and sights on offer at Staglands but access is difficult and somewhat limited. Please contact us for more information.

Double Pushchairs
Although it is possible to get around the nature sanctuary with a double pushchair, it is difficult in parts. Backpacks or single push chairs are easier.

Wet Weather Gear

Being in a valley, the weather can change rapidly and may differ from the weather when you left home. To be sure pop a jacket in the car but for those unexpected times when the rain does decide to fall during your visit, Staglands have a range of disposable ponchos and raincoats for purchase at the ticketing office.

Batteries and disposable cameras are also available for purchase in case you forgot to bring them— so you don’t miss out on capturing this beautiful Wellington attraction!
