We are very sad to share the news that our beloved North Island kaka Monty has passed
away from natural causes
At 50 years old, Monty, who hatched at Auckland Zoo in January 1970, was the
world's oldest known kaka in captivity. He arrived at Staglands in 1999 with
other kaka that passed away over subsequent years.
Monty however continued to thrive here and lived very happily alongside his kea
cousins in The Kea Aviary for 21 years, where he endeared himself to our many
visitors with his cheeky antics.
RIP Monty you will be missed🖤
